How Does Acupuncture Work?

There are many theories about how it works. According to Johns Hopkins, “Acupuncture points are believed to stimulate the central nervous system. This, in turn, releases chemicals into the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These biochemical changes may stimulate the body’s natural healing abilities and promote physical and emotional well-being.”

u

Does Acupuncture Hurt?

Many people expect acupuncture to feel like traditional injections/shots. However, the needles used in acupuncture are MUCH thinner – similar to a human hair. They are inserted quickly, and most people do not feel much at the time they are inserted. Common sensations vary from person to person. Once inserted, you may feel some tingling, warmth, heaviness or possibly a dull ache.

u

Is Acupuncture Safe?

Yes. We use great care in providing a safe and hygienic treatment space following recommended safety guidelines. This includes single-use needles which are promptly disposed of and regular sanitization.

u

When Treating My Vision, Do You Stick Needles In My Eye?

No. Needles are generally inserted in the limbs, hands and feet to increase blood flow to the eyes.  Additional points will vary to support the needs of the individual person’s body.

Is There Any Evidence that TCM Works?

Numerous studies have been completed, and our evidence base is constantly growing. According to the National Institute of Health, acupuncture has been shown as an effective treatment alone or in combination with conventional therapies to treat numerous conditions.
